Vs. Cleveland: Dec 05, 2002
With injured Scott Quinn and Jacey Hamilton unable to play, Roosevelt fielded a young squad against Cleveland. While an athletic Cleveland team full-court pressed throughout the game, the young Riders team never gave up and narrowed in the final margin in the closing minutes. Joe Gallant lead the Riders on the glass while Aaron Hagen contributed solid minutes off the bench for the Riders. Nate Hagen and Dan Tuttle lead Roosevelt at the offensive end, both contributing 10 points. In the end, the Riders' 26 turnovers and poor foul shooting (38% as a team) was too much to overcome.

Vs.Highline: Dec 07, 2002
Roosevelt's JV squad jumped out to a 11-8 lead, but were held to 2 points in the second quarter to trail by 9 at halftime. Highline extended the advantage to 15 midway through the third quarter before Roosevelt rallied behind the guard play of Monte Diaz and Dan Tuttle. Diaz injected much needed defensive energy to the Riders' cause, while Tuttle provided the offensive firepower (16 points in the second half; 8 of the Rider's final 10 points in the 4th quarter). Meanwhile Connor Harrell, Nate Hagen, Aaron Hagen, and Joe Gallant patrolled the boards for the Riders. Roosevelt overcame 7 for 23 shooting from the charity stripe to pull out their first victory of the year in a hard fought contest between two closely matched teams. Tuttle lead all scorers with 21 while Greg Crosta lead a balanced Pirates' attack with 10.

Vs. Newport: Dec 10, 2002
After holding a 29-26 advantage at halftime, Rider turnovers (15 in the second half; compared to only 7 in the first half) and a decided foul disadvantage (22 fouls for Roosevelt, as compared to 13 for Newport) caught up with the Riders in the second half. Poor free throw shooting by Newport helped keep it close and the Roosevelt scrapped back to stay in the game until the final minutes when a technical foul effectively put the game out of reach. Roosevelt's Dan Tuttle lead all scorers with 17 in a losing cause, while Newport's balanced attack put 4 scorers in double figures for the victors.

Vs. Franklin: Dec 12, 2002
Franklin started the game hot, jumping to a 10-2 lead before the Riders fought back to trail by 1 at the end of the 1st (14-13) and by 2 at the half (30-28). Carlos McArthur and Scott Quinn each tallied 8 points in the first half to lead the charge for Roosevelt. Unfortunately, the Quakers jumped all over the Riders at the beginning of the second half, extending the lead to as much as 15 before Roosevelt fought back again, cutting the lead to 6 on a Dan Tuttle jumper. But as Coach Forrest Ward said in his locker room speech after the game, "There are only so many times you can come back, guys." The Riders never got any closer as the Quakers were able to keep the margin and eventually stretch it out to a 12 point victory. Dan Tuttle tallied 12 points, while Scott Quinn (15 points, 11 rebounds), Carlos McArthur (10 points), Tim Franco (7 points), and Jacey Hamilton (6 points) were able to provide offense off the bench for the Riders. Chambers lead a very balanced Franklin scoring attack with 17.

Vs. Lake Washington: Dec 20, 2002
Roosevelt started hot, hitting its first four shots of the game and never trailing again in the contest. Lake Washington was able to scrap back into the game in the second half, narrowing the gap to one point, but two third quarter 3-pointers by Dan Tuttle, and outstanding free-throw shooting down the stretch (18-21/86% for the game), allowed the Riders to extend the lead back out and win by a comfortable margin. Scott Quinn, Joe Gallant, and Nate Hagen all contributed significantly on the boards while Monty Diaz led a pesky Rider defense. Three Roughriders finished the game in double figures (Dan Tuttle - 24, Carlos McArthur -13, Scott Quinn - 10) while DeBell nailed 4 3-pointers and had 18 points for Lake Washington. The victory was Roosevelt's first JV league win of the year, allowing the boys' JV squad to do their part on a clean sweep of Lake Washington for the evening as all 4 Rider teams won (JV boys/girls, V boys/girls).

Vs. Mountlake Terrace: Dec 27, 2002
A scheduling snafu and absences due to the vacation left the Roosevelt JV squad playing shorthanded, but the Riders played hard in the first half. They trailed by only 1 at the end of the first quarter and were still in the game at the half (with a 10 deficit). Unfortunately, the Hawkeyes outplayed the Roughriders in the second half, outscoring them by a 22 point margin. Dan Tuttle led the Riders and all scorers with 16 points, while Carlos McArthur chipped in 13. Blake led a balanced Mountlake Terrace attack (4 players in double figures) with 15 for the victors.

Vs. Ballard: Dec 28, 2002
The consolation bracket of the JV Edmonds District Holiday Tournament (at Mountlake HS) pitted two league rivals against each other. Ballard took it to the Roughriders in the first half on the inside play of Mirante and Nelson, complimented by the slashing drives of Sam Kiflu (11, 7, and 7 points in first half). The Beavers outworked Roosevelt to take a 39-24 edge into halftime. The second half was a whole different game though, as tough man-to-man team defense, and the inside play of Scott Quinn (19 points in second half; fouled out Ballard center Mirante) got the Riders back into the game. In the 4th quarter, this team effort paid off as Roosevelt tied the score at 62 with about 4 minutes left.
After a controversial non-call (with Scott Quinn's apparent taking of a charge which would have negated a Ballard basket going uncalled) and the two teams swapping several buckets, the Beavers jumped back on top (68-65) and had the ball with 1:15 left. Ballard was able to run more than a minute off the clock (down to 0:13) before Roosevelt finally fouled. Ballard sank the ensuing two free throws, allowing them to extend the lead and win the game. Scott Quinn finished with 29 points (leading all scorers), while Dan Tuttle chipped in 14 for the Riders. Mirante lead the victors with 21 points, with Faulkner (15 points) and Sam Kiflu (14 points) also finishing in double figures for the Beavers. The two teams will meet again in a league matchup on February 11 at Ballard.

Vs. Garfield: Jan 7, 2003
In the first half, Roosevelt used a stifling defense to build a five-point edge (22-17) heading into the break. No Bulldog totaled more than 4 points in the first two quarters, while the Riders' Scott Quinn lead all scorers with 8 at the half. The Bulldogs came out firing in the 3rd quarter, building up a lead as large as 7, but the Roughriders came back to knot the game at 34--all before a buzzer-beating shot gave Garfield a 3 point edge to start the 4th period.
Garfield's Andre Zeumault nailed three 4th-quarter 3-pointers to open up a nine point edge, but the Riders came back one last time, narrowing the gap to three points and getting possession of the ball in the last 15 seconds. Carlos McArthur was fouled and went to the line to shoot a one-and-one with 1.5 seconds left in the contest. Needing to make the first free throw and get a put back on the attempt, McArthur's first attempt rimmed out and the clock ran out on the Riders. Roosevelt's Scott Quinn and Garfield's Andre Zeumault both finished the game with 13 points.

Vs. Bothell: Jan 10, 2003
A low-scoring first quarter ended with Roosevelt holding a two-point advantage at 7-5. Bothell was able to open up their offense in the second quarter (scoring 17 points), while the Riders remained stuck in first gear (managing only 4 points). Bothell's 6'3" sophomore Jake Grant was able to take advantage of Roosevelt big men foul woes (Nate Hagen, Scott Quinn, and Joe Gallant all had two fouls in the first) to score 10 second quarter points (12 overall in the half).
Roosevelt came out re-energized at the opening of the second half, narrowing the gap and then eventually taking a 40-35 lead midway through the 4th quarter. The Cougars fought back, going on a 9-0 run of their own to take a 44-40 lead with 30 seconds left. Monty Diaz narrowed a three pointer with 5 seconds left, narrowing the gap to one point at 44-43. After a Rider timeout, Roosevelt fouled quickly after the ensuing in-bounds play. The Cougars' Steve Quakenbush sunk the two resulting free throws to get the lead back to 3 points with 2.7 seconds remaining. Bothell hung on to win as a Jacey Hamilton 3-pointer backrimmed out at the final buzzer. Bothell's Jake Grant ended up leading all scorers with 24 tough inside points while Dan Tuttle paced the Riders with 14 points.

Vs. Inglemoor: Jan 14, 2003
A tough Inglemoor pressing defense helped the Vikings jump to a 18-4 advantage late in the first before three-pointers by Jacey Hamilton and Dan Tuttle (a buzzer-beater from mid-court) narrowed the gap to 10 at the end of the quarter. In the more evenly-fought second quarter, the Riders got as close as 7 points (28-21) before Inglemoor re-extended the lead to 10 at the break. Highlighted by a second-quarter dunk, Inglemoor's Campbell led all scorers with 10 points in the half, highlighted by a second quarter dunk on a break. Jacey Hamilton lead Roosevelt with six over the first two quarters.
In the second half Inglemoor re-established their advantage, leading by as many as 22 points several times in the late 3rd and early 4th periods. The Roughrider group of Aaron Hagen, Tim Franco, Thomas Bohan, Connor Harrel, and Scott Quinn was able run against the Inglemoor bench, closing the gap to 15 points midway through the 4th and forcing the Vikings to bring back in their first team. Roosevelt could get no closer, finally losing by a 66-46 score. Inglemoor was paced by 18 from Campbell to go along with 15 from Segadelli. While 10 Riders tallied in the scoring column, none reached in double figures for the contest. Jacey Hamilton led Roosevelt with 9 points.

Vs. Woodinville: Jan 21, 2003
Roosevelt started the game on fire, nailing their first 5 shots, and 6 of their first 7, to surge to a 19-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Riders were able to maintain this lead through the second to lead by a score of 34-29 at the half. Roosevelt's balanced first-half attack featured Dan Tuttle (12 points) scoring from outside while Stuart Quinn (4 points), Scott Quinn (6 points), and Taylor Argens (6 points) pounded the Falcons inside. Woodinville's John Horaitis, Micah Sherman, and Ari Vela all scored 6 points in the half to lead a balanced Falcon effort.
The third quarter was all Falcons. They outscored Roosevelt 22-6 in the quarter to take control of the game. In the fourth quarter, they continued to extend their lead until it reached as much as 18 points late in the quarter. At this point the Riders made one last push, narrowing the gap to 6 points in the final minutes before Woodinville was able to finish them off. Dan Tuttle led the Riders in a losing cause with 15 points, while 3 Falcons finished in double digits (Markus Vitulli - 15, Micah Sherman - 10, and Ari Vela - 10).

Vs. Eastlake: Jan 28, 2003
Eastlake jumped on top early in the contest, taking a 18-2 lead before settling for a 22-10 advantage at the end of the first. Roosevelt fought back in the second, narrowing the gap to 4 points at 28-24 before the Wolves went on a 17-3 run to re-assert control and head to the locker rooms with a 45-27 lead. Eastlake's Harris lead all first half scorers with 15 points (including three second-quarter 3-pointers), while Dan Tuttle scored 9 points over the first 2 quarters for the Riders.
Though the Riders fought hard in the second half, they never got the opportunity to get back in the contest and Eastlake closed out a 73-61 win. The Riders' Dan Tuttle led all scorers with 16 points, with Carlos McArthur and Taylor Argens also reaching double-digits (11 and 10 respectively). The Wolves' Harris was held scoreless in the second half, but he still led Eastlake in scoring with 15 points. Eastlake's Mannon was another notable scorer with 10 points.

Vs. Lake Washington: January 31, 2003
After fighting to a first-quarter draw at 11-11, the Riders went to the half with a 5-point lead, thanks in large part to the Quinn brothers combining for 9 of Roosevelt's 15 second-period points. Taylor Argens' 8 third-quarter points helped the Riders to slowly extend their lead, finishing with a 39-30 lead at the end of three periods. The fourth period continued to form as the Riders methodically extended their margin to ice a well-earned 54-40 victory.
Dan Tuttle led the Riders with 16 points, but the story of the game for Roosevelt was its tough defense, which did an outstanding job of limiting open looks at the basket for the Kangaroos and held Lake Washington sophomore forward Kevin Dibell to 7 points. Previously, Dibell had gone for 18 points in the team's December encounter. Tuttle was aided at the offensive end by Riders Taylor Argens and Scott Quinn who, despite playing only 2 quarters apiece, chipped in 9 and 8 points respectively. The sophomore 5' 8" guard Justin Pratt paced the Kang's with 14 points in the contest.

Vs. Redmond: Feb 4, 2003
Roosevelt struck first in a fast-paced, up-and-down first quarter, garnering a 25-17 lead after one period. Redmond's Dunda scored 10 in the first while Roosevelt's Carlos McArthur kept pace with 9 of his own. After such a high scoring first, it was a bit surprising that the two teams would combine for only 9 points in a methodical second quarter, but the Riders still carried a 29-22 lead into the half.
Behind Carlos McArthur's 10 3rd period points, Roosevelt extended their advantage to 45-35 after three periods. The Riders continued to hold a 50-43 lead with under two minutes remaining in the game, but after a number of ill-advised and missed shots, turnovers, and missed free throws opportunities, Roosevelt found themselves clinging to a tenuous 53-52 lead with Redmond having possession of the ball out of bounds with 12 seconds on the clock. Redmond inbounded the ball after a time out, and Roosevelt appeared to do a good job pressuring them full court before falling back and denying Redmond's intended offensive options. But Mustangs' post Squiers received a pass on the wing out past the 3 point arc with less than 3 seconds remaining and took the ball to the basket in a last gasp effort. His leaning, contested banker from the dotted line inside the key fell as time expired to give Redmond a hard fought 54-53 victory (and capping a 6 point 4th quarter by Squiers).
Roosevelt's Carlos McArthur lead all scorers with 21 points, while Dan Tuttle chipped in 12 for the disappointed Roughriders.

Vs. Bothell: Feb 7, 2003
After holding a slight edge throughout the contest, Roosevelt allowed Bothell to come back in the 4th period to take the victory in the close 48-47 affair. Steve Quakenbush and Jake Grant combined for 10 4th-quarter points to lead the comeback. The Quinn brothers (junior Scott and freshman Stuart) both tallied 8 points to lead a balanced Rider attack which had 6 players with 6 points or more. Bothell's Jake Grant lead all scorers with 15 points, with the Cougar's Steve Quakenbush chipping in 10.

Vs. Ballard: Feb 11, 2003
Ballard jumped all over the Roughriders early, scoring the game's first 15 points and holding the Riders scoreless over the initial seven minutes, before Nate Hagen broke the ice for Roosevelt. Ballard's Sanchez topped off a red-hot first by nailing his 4th 3-pointer of the quarter at the close of the first quarter. Ballard continued the onslaught in the second quarter, extending the margin to as much as 22 points (at 28-6) before Roosevelt started to claw its way back into the game. Behind Rider Scott Quinn's 11 second-quarter points, Roosevelt narrowed the gap to 32-19 at the half.
Roosevelt continued to scrap back into the game at the beginning of the second half, narrowing the lead to as little as 5 points (at 34-29) but this was as close as the Riders would get. The Beavers went on a run in the latter half of the third to extend the margin to 41-31 at the end of the third, and Roosevelt never got any closer. Ballard eventually coasted to a final 57-43 victory. Ballard's Mills led all scorers with 14 points, while Scott Quinn finished the game with a Rider high of 13.

Vs. Juanita: Feb 15, 2003
Roosevelt took an early lead in the contest, building a six-point lead after one period (19-13) and extending the margin to lead by 9 at the half (34-25). Taylor Argens (11 points - including 3 threes), Dan Tuttle (8 points), and Scott Quinn (6 points) carried the Riders in the first half, combining to score 25 of the Riders' 34 points. For Juanita, 5' 11" sophomore guard Kurtis Gale was a one-man wrecking crew, nailing four 3-pointers in the first half and scoring 14 points to keep the Rebels in the game.
In the third quarter, Juanita was unable to close the gap and Roosevelt unable to extend it significantly. Roosevelt maintained their 5-8 point margin until the latter stages of the fourth quarter. After several mental lapses on the defensive end (successive shooters behind the arc were fouled, leading to 6 Jordan Klein free throws which were all converted) and missed opportunities at the offensive end of the court (turnovers and missed free throws) for Roosevelt, Juanita was able to claw within 2 points late in the fourth. This was as close as they would get, as the Riders were finally able to convert a Zak Fairbrook back-door layup, a Scott Quinn hook, and Dan Tuttle's converted free throws to finish off the victory.
The Rebels' Kurtis Gale was able to make 2 more three's in the second half to finish with 6 treys in the contest and 20 points total. Taylor Argens had a solid third quarter to go along with his nice first-half effort and lead the Riders with 16 points. Scott Quinn and Dan Tuttle chipped in 14 and 13 points respectively in the victory.

Vs. Franklin: Feb 18, 2003
In the last contest of the year for both squads, Franklin used a balanced scoring attack and an aggressive pressure defense to force the Riders into mistakes and slowly pull away throughout the contest. Tay Proctor led Franklin with 10 points, and all 12 Quakers suited up for the game played and reached the scoring column. The Riders' Scott Quinn (17 points) led a game Roosevelt team that just couldn't keep the pace on this particular evening. Freshman Joe Gallant also dropped in 11 points for the Roughriders. Roosevelt freshmen Aaron Hunter and Dustin Jensen started and scored in the first quarter. The loss culminated a Roosevelt JV season which found them with a 5-15 overall and 4-10 league record.
